Counselling isn't a Catholic confession & repentance session- Sorry Nonna

Sometimes clients come to therapy subconsciously just to beat up on themselves, and it makes me sad because that’s not what therapy is for, and that’s not what I allow.

Therapy is not calling yourself into the ‘Principal’s Office’ to get in trouble for who are, to be punished for bad behaviour or your scolded for your thoughts or feelings.

Therapy is not ‘Confessing your sins’ to a perfect therapist and seeking repentance for your guilt, shame or bad behaviour and imperfections.

While it’s true that most people come to therapy because there is something they want to change about themselves or work on something isn’t helpful for them anymore...

I take a compassionate and holistic approach, that always sees my clients as a whole. You are not the ‘bad thing’ about you. Your ‘bad part’ does not cancel out all of your brilliance and resilience.

In fact, I don’t see any of your parts, behaviours, thoughts or habits as bad. Together, we will explore your parts from the perspective of kindness, compassion, and curiosity, to find the clarity it needs.

We want to deeply understand that part of you before we try to ‘get rid of it.’ The process of understanding it IS the healing journey. Most parts of you just want to be understood, seen, heard, felt and supported.

And once they can feel that from you, and you deeply understand what they’ve been trying to protect you from and what they’ve been afraid of, they tend to soften. They’re tired and they want a break.

Now, the parts don’t have to go completely, they can stay and be a smaller part of your life. They’re welcome to keep looking out for you and leap back into the front seat if your worst fears are happening...

But usually, our worst fears are not happening! So we work to soothe, update, talk to, support and allow that scared part of you to soften and relax so that other, wiser, confident parts of you can lead the way.

Then, you'll not be at their mercy or feel like they control your life and you have no say in the matter! We work with clients in person and online.

Have a soulful day x
