I’m a therapist and yet none of my own clients actually NEED therapy
Wanna hear something ironic?
I’m a therapist and yet none of my own clients actually NEED therapy.
What I mean by that is, the old way of believing when someone is broken they “need to see a therapist” to fix them, analyse them or diagnose them with something which helps them make sense of their “abnormal” behaviour or thoughts.
None of my clients are broken and never have been. In fact, they’re some of the most brilliant, successful, talented, creative, artistic, driven, and entrepreneurial women of Perth.
They have brilliant minds, big hearts, full emotions, and interesting, complex, fascinating inner worlds.
They have some of the best questions about life, love, suffering and the meaning of it all.
They have deep friendships, and supportive families and are studying or working in an area they love.
After nearly a decade of sitting with women “in therapy” week after week, I’ve come to notice that they don’t need therapy, and they don’t come to me to fix them, because I don’t work in that way anyway.
My clients crave a space to understand themselves better.
They often have brilliant outside lives but inside there are some inner workings that feel a little misaligned, misunderstood, unseen or confusing to them.
They’re seeking a space to explore, question and unpack their thoughts and emotions and ways of being that can’t be done with their lovely friends, partners or family.
They’re craving a pathway to make navigating their inner world a little clearer, a little easier, and a little more streamlined.
They’re curious about how their Inner World works and wish to make sense of it, so that they can make sense to themselves.
They often explore a side of themselves or a way of being in their outside life they haven’t yet expressed or fully owned that it’s how they want to show up, moving forward.
It is born as a little secret seed in our sessions, that we flesh out the vision for how they want to do things differently.
It’s like trying on a new outfit, in the privacy of my room, until they’ve tweaked and refined the vision and can then say “ahh, yes that’s it.
We’ve nailed it. That’s how I want to show up” and then slowly but surely they start to articulate and express it in their outside world.
(Just yesterday a client said to me: "I've literally been trying to explain that to myself for weeks and you just put it into the perfect words for me.")
My clients don’t ‘need therapy.’
My clients crave a secret space to experiment with new ways of being, living and loving.
My clients crave a wise sage that reflects their own intuition and knowing back to them, so that a unique blueprint for their own life can be illuminated.
My clients want to unburden the parts of them that no longer serve them. While we thank them for all of their hard work to get them where they are today, but those "unhelpful" or "hustler" parts can rest now, as my clients want to soften into themselves.
My clients want a better inner world for themselves. Outside they have pulled it all off, and now, it’s time to nurture themselves in a different way,
to drop the guard, to rest a little more, and to learn to be way kinder, prouder and more compassionate to themselves.
My clients are at a place in life where it’s time for THEM to be nurtured. Everyone else and everything else is fine.
But how, beautifully, it’s their time to be cared for. And that’s my role: To transmute and inspire deep nourishment, compassionate nurturing and encouraging protectiveness for the new little seeds of ideas that are bravely blossoming.

I'm sharing this because the biggest mindset block wonderful women need to traverse over is that stigma that something has to be broken about themselves or their lives to start therapy and I'm on a lifelong mission to put that belief in the trash. It's old, it's unnecessary and it's damaging.
As modern therapists, we support brilliant women to do it better, easier, more kinder, and there ain't nothing broken about that!
If you'd like to join me in leaving that archaic old-man view of therapy in the past, and make 2024 the year you connect with your own bespoke personal therapist, chat with me by replying to this email or exploring my website below and getting to know Sarah, Jo, Jen and myself.
Have the best day!
