Joanna Bealey

Registered Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist

I am proud to be a qualified psychotherapist with extensive specialist training to support women, mums, new parents, couples and young families in their life journeys.

I bring a wealth of modalities and skills to my integrative counselling, including EMDR therapy, emotion-focused therapy and attachment therapy.

Whether you’re experiencing intense stress, overwhelm, anxiety, depression, trauma or relationship challenges, I am here to holistically support you back to feeling like yourself again.

I’m passionate about supporting couples to reconnect in their relationship, find their emotional bond again, and get back on the same team. You may have lost each other along the way through parenting, betrayals, life stress or the natural challenges in life.

You’re craving to get back to the relationship you fell in love with, as well as feeling like yourself again.

Together, we can work towards feeling better.

Counselling and Therapy for Women, Mums and Couples.

I know as a Mum of two that life it’s not always what you expect and I’m here to be your confidante along your journey.

  • Are you having more bad days than good?

  • Feeling fed-up, depressed, anxious, or grieving and finding it hard to shake those difficult feelings?

  • Are you feeling stuck or struggling with your relationships?

It’s common to feel that you should be able to cope, which can make these feelings even tougher and more isolating or even shameful.

I understand how daunting it can be to share your thoughts and feelings with someone. Before becoming a therapist, I felt the same way.

Together, we can create a sanctuary—a place where you can come as you are and share what you are experiencing in a non-judgemental space. This is a time and space is just for you.

My role is to be by your side, enabling you to explore what’s on your mind. It doesn’t matter how big or small your concerns are—everything is welcome and will be met with understanding and support.

During your time together, you’ll go at your own pace and wherever you choose or need to go.

During Couples Therapy, you will:

  • Rebuild Trust: Together, we'll uncover the underlying issues that erode trust and learn effective strategies to rebuild a broken relationship.

  • Explore: We'll delve into the underlying emotions and attachment needs that shape your relationship dynamics.

  • Increase Awareness and Expression: With Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), you and your partner will recognize and express your deepest feelings and needs in a safe and supportive environment. This space nurtures vulnerability, allowing genuine emotional connection to thrive.

EMDR Therapy for trauma, anxiety & depression

Jo is both pleased and excited to offer EMDR therapy. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based approach designed to help individuals overcome the impact of trauma and life’s challenges.

EMDR is a unique and effective method that facilitates healing by unlocking the natural healing processes within the mind. Whether you’re navigating past traumas, anxiety, or other issues, Jo is here to guide you through overcoming your distress and finding peace, helping you feel more comfortable.

EMDR therapy may be beneficial for you if:

  • You have experienced traumatic events: EMDR is highly effective in treating various forms of trauma, including childhood abuse, accidents, natural disasters, and combat experiences.

  • You struggle with PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder): EMDR has been extensively researched and proven effective in reducing the symptoms of PTSD, such as flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and intrusive thoughts.

  • You suffer from anxiety or panic disorders: EMDR can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and panic by addressing underlying traumatic experiences or negative beliefs contributing to these conditions.

  • You have difficulty processing past experiences: EMDR therapy can assist in processing and integrating distressing memories, enabling you to move forward with greater resilience and emotional stability.

  • You struggle with low self-esteem or negative beliefs about yourself: EMDR can target and reprocess negative beliefs formed as a result of past experiences, fostering greater self-compassion and self-confidence.

  • You experience recurring distressing thoughts or images: EMDR helps desensitize and reprocess distressing memories, reducing their intensity and frequency, and promoting emotional healing.

  • You seek to enhance personal growth and self-awareness: EMDR therapy is not only effective for treating specific symptoms but can also facilitate personal growth, insight, and empowerment.

Jo is committed to walking alongside you on your journey, offering support and guidance every step of the way.

Becoming a parent is such an emotional rollercoaster. Pregnancy can be nerve-racking and life as a new parent can be so overwhelming, especially for your relationship. I’m here to guide you through these changes.

Pre-Natal & Post-Natal Counselling for parents

I cherish my mission as a counsellor: to support your mental well-being during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

Becoming a parent is an emotional rollercoaster. Pregnancy can be nerve-racking, and life as a new parent can be overwhelming. The worry of what is to come, the stress of whether you are ‘doing it right,’ and the lack of sleep can all be both exhausting and anxiety-inducing.

This period can also highlight other aspects of your life that may be challenging, such as relationships or learning to love a new version of yourself. You may have experienced a difficult pregnancy or birth, and becoming a parent has not allowed you the time or opportunity to recover and process what you have been through.

My job is to help both expectant and new parents with their emotional well-being and mental health.

I have advanced specialist training in parenting, attachment styles, postpartum support, and baby massage. I have the knowledge and skills to support parents from pregnancy and beyond.

I am passionate about making the transition into parenthood enjoyable and empowering. It’s not my job to ‘tell you what to do’; instead, I am here to support and walk alongside you as you journey through this phase of life.
