Is there something wrong with me?
There’s nothing wrong with you.
Now, there are ways you protect yourself.
There are ways you make yourself feel safe.
There are ways you act out when triggered.
There are ways you cope with stress.
There are things that happened to you.
There are things that happened for you.
There are things that haven’t happened yet, that you deeply desire.
There are relationships you crave but can’t yet find.
There are careers and accomplishments that escape you.
There are ways of being you long for.
Most of our challenges are sitting in the space in between who we want to be and who we are now.
No one is ruined or wrong or a lost cause.
Most of our lives are simply, interrupted.
Our ideas, our goals, our dreams become interrupted by people, events, lack of resources, change, shock, accidents, trauma, grief, loss, rage and any other profoundly heartbreaking life experience.
There is nothing wrong with you.
Maybe, you’ve come to see now that there are things that no longer serve you.
Maybe there are ways you deal with the world that no longer help you.
Maybe your coping mechanisms have become agonising and you want to grow.
Maybe you don’t want to be alone any more.
Maybe you don’t want to be surrounded by strangers any more.
Maybe you don’t want to feel wrong, or broken, or needy, or lonely, or misunderstood, or ignored, or used anymore.
Maybe you don’t want to feel shame about your secrets any more.
Maybe there’s nothing to feel shame about anyway.
Maybe you want to make a change to be who you truly are, in the outside world.
And maybe this is all terrifying and you don’t know how to sort your thoughts, understand your pain or make the first step.
Maybe you don’t know what the first step is, and, maybe, you need the support of a nurturing, neutral and encouraging person in your life to help you as you wobble along, tremble and shake, but have the courage to take the first steps towards a different way of being.
Maybe, just maybe?
