Are you burnt out?
You see, tired is something that can be fixed with a few days off and a few good night's sleep. But burn out is a long period of pushing yourself beyond your energy limits, and it requires more time to recover.
It's important to take a moment to check in with yourself so that you can take action and prepare for a better future.
Let’s do a little check in to see if you are well overdue for some consistent and nourishing self-care, to nurture yourself back to your usual sassy self.
You may be experiencing burn out if:
You love your work and home life but you can’t seem to enjoy it lately.
You’ve lost motivation to do the things you enjoy and value doing.
You feel like a failure, or disappointed in your self and the quality of what you’re doing. You can see much good in what you do or have to offer.
You’re late, missing details or deadlines- and that’s really unlike you.
Cynical and negative thoughts keep going round and round and round in your mind. Eg. “What’s the point? No one cares anyway!”
You’re socially withdrawing to conserve energy (and not in the usual way introverts always do this) and feel like you have nothing to give others.
Wishing you could just draw the curtains, pull the covers over your head and be left alone. You’re basically DONE with everything.
Unusual health symptoms, headaches, ache-y pain, stomach issues, stress rashes and fatigue that show you're run down.
Acting unlike yourself, being more cranky or withdrawn, snappy or crying more than usual, even over little things.
Losing things, forgetting everything, constant disorganisation and always feeling like you’re on the back foot.
If you’re feeling these symptoms, I urge you to take it seriously.
You deserve to live a life that is not a burden and you deserve rest. Burn out is not something that you can overcome instantly, it requires consistent effort to care for yourself as much as you can.
You've pushed your body and spirit for a long time, so it’s time to give back to yourself and nourish yourself back to health.
Think of one small thing you can start doing each day for yourself, even if it's as simple as drinking more water, going to bed half an hour earlier, or letting some of those chores go.
